NO, a crate motor is a complete almost ready to run engine, usually minus the carb & headers.

so a good thing to do would be to get a short block?  cause i figure, if you get the crate motor, you need to put EVERYTHING on it, but if you buy a short or long block, its already mostly put into the motor.

A short block is a complete engine minus the heads, intake, carb, dist, etc. It is basically the block, rods, crank, pistons, cam, etc.
A long block is a short block plus the heads (still minus the intake & all the bolt on stuff)

also, i have more questions - whats a short block, and whats a long block.  i know what is a big and small block, but whats a short block?  thanks
