Michael, A serp belt or belt slip in general will not effect the timing in our type of car. A locker is a rarity in cars, but that doesn't really even sould like a locker problem if someone went that route over a posi. I would drain the fluid and pull out the axle shafts. It sounds like it could be the wheel bearings (the axle shaft rides on them) or an axle problem. If the axle shafts are grooved they will need replacing with a new bearing anyways. The bearings can be removed from the axle tube with a slide hammer. Take a look at your spider gears if it isn't a posi or locker. It also would be easy to pull off the caps and pull out the carrier and ring gear to insept the bearings. They also could cause a noise when you turn. Be sure to mark the caps and keep track of the shims on each side so it gets put together just as it was removed. As was said... clean up the fluid and try to find where it is coming from. Lines or a pan gasket are the easy fixes. A puddle by the front of the tranny coming from inside the bell housing would most likely be from a damaged converter or frt pump. Both require a good deal of work to repair. A cracked case would be the worst senario. Do duble check you fluid level and I would make sure you have no reason that would cause the tranny to overheat (do you have a higher stall converter? tranny cooler?). Being over full or overheating would cause fluid to come out the vent. Good luck Mikey
