Confused? LOL Did some checking on http://www.howstuffworks.com and it
states:

~The heater core draws its hot coolant from the cylinder head and returns it
to the pump -- so the heater works regardless of whether the thermostat is
open or closed.~

In our case, it draws the hot coolant from the intake and returns it to the
water pump.

I think I've discovered my problem. Some years ago I bought a neat, chrome,
90 degree fitting at a Super Chevy show in Dallas from some ~hot rod
supplier~ (?) that I used for the intake manifold heater hose. (See
http://www.dalesplace.com/images/chevelle/engine040920001.jpg) It was nice
because it kept the hose from having to make a big arc before going back to
the heater. Of course I ripped the old hoses off and replaced both of them.
The fitting turned out to be a 3/4" hose so (not thinking) I hooked it up to
the 3/4" connection on the heater core. I screwed up, plain and simple.
The 3/4" connection at the top is the "return" line to the water pump. Now
my problem is with the FI unit, there isn't room to run a regular fitting in
the intake. There simply isn't room to run a (5/8" this time) heater hose
up and over anything. (See
http://www.dalesplace.com/images/chevelle/p000982.jpg)

So. Anyone know of a mfg of a 90 degree water fitting that accepts a 5/8"
heater hose and has 1/2" NPT threads?
