Not sure about Glycerin, but oils can break down the rubber like the solvents.  Basically, if it causes the rubber to expand, then it is actually getting into the rubber and breaking it down.  We had a very expensive (multi-million $) problem where I worked years ago due to the wrong vacuum grease (organic based) causing failures of rubber O-Rings.  I got to know quite a lot about this subject.   Ever heard a warning about certain lubricants and prophylactics?  Same issue...   Again, I'm not saying not to do this or that it will destroy your rubber seals, just that it can cause some degradation.  If you want to shine and restore rubber products, use silicone based products or other products designed for rubber (like tire dressing).  Sine this started on how to remove the white residue on the rubber, you may need to use a solvent to remove this as your only solution.   Brad -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Larry Fisher Sent: Wednesday, July 17, 2002 3:19 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [Chevelle-List] Vent Window Gasket You might also try glycerin.
