There is a method to adjust the valves without the motor running. Probably not
quite as accurate for a hi performance motor, but for most near stock applications it

the valve adjustment method many times and never had a problem.

Yes, you are supposed to adjust the valves while the engine is running, and you are
supposed to make sure that oil is pumping through all the pushrods and that in general
nothing seems to look or sound unusual. You can see pix of the cutout valve covers

Don't they! would you happen to know how long a engine swap and replacing whatever
needs to be replacing would actually take? It would be nice if it was really a half
hour - wouldn't it? Don't you have to take off the covers for the valves and check
the valves when the engines running? my dad said he had to do that with his impala SS
when he blew up the 327 and swapped in the 283. and he said that you took off the
valve covers and check the valves beating up and down and listen (or whatever it is)
for errors...is this true?
