Reading with interest on the trans problems, I am still having great luck with the two 200-4R's I have. The Art Carr 200-4R (non lockup) in the El Camino which the engine dyno read 500 HP is still working great, it is hooked to stock 12 bolt posi 3.73 gears with drag radials. Does not go to the drag strip so don't know how it would fare there. I was told by Art Carr rep that above 400 HP to go with the non lockup.. The other 200-4R is in the 72 Monte Carlo behind the 330 HP GM crate engine again 12 bolt posi 3.73 gears. This one was built by Phoenix Transmissions in Weatherford, TX. Since they are close I drive over and pick them up and are the only ones I will recommend to customers in my shop for modified trans. For the standard rebuild I use another shop which is very good on them but they don't do HP trans.
On points, throw them away and go with the Petronix units/coils. This allows retaining the stock look and gaining the HEI advantages. I have changed many cars and boats over to Petronix and haven't had one come-back yet plus the customers are very satisfied. Very easy to install in cars, boats can be a little tricky at times but well worth it. Just my thoughts, I may be wrong.... D.R.
