I've got a 700r4 behind a 402 big block and so far it's been working great. I've got stock heads with a mild port job and a Comp XE274 cam. I'm also running a 3.73 gear. The 3.04 first gear in the tranny w/3.73 rear works great and at 70 mph I'm turning 2300 RPM's. Mine does have a shift kit and it hits 2nd gear pretty hard (but that's just fine). Hope that helps.
