Bill, since you're going to pull the engine and replace the rear main bearing anyway, I read once a long time ago in a magazine no less, that you could drill a small hole through the thrust face of the bearing and the main cap into the oil passage which will provide pressurized oil to the thrust surface of the bearing.  The reason for this mod was for stick shift/high pressure clutch setups.  I know you're running an auto but it could help prolong the life of your thrust surface.  Just a thought...
