Hey Bill,   just a thought, and its probably been checked but just incase it hasent, how about rod side clearance at the crank end? I know this much when your checking end play on the crankshaft it must be equal to or SLIGHTLY greater than the rod side clearance or your going to put a heck of a load against the thrust face of the main bearing........
