Kyle, I ran a 12 bolt in my car for about 3 years. The problem I had was keeping the rr housing from bending. Lots of torque heavy car and transbrake. I installed a F*** 9" w/ backbrace & bulkheads/stiffners inside and so far so good. The problem in my case with the 9" is it's about 50-75 lbs. heavier than the 12 bolt and it uses more HP to turn it. On the street I would use the 12 bolt(Keep it all GM) I would center any RR in a backhalf job. I would use the biggest tubs I could get away with. Art Morrison has a 38" X 22" and 40" X 23" in both steel & aluminum and street tubs that are 32" X 22" in steel & aluminum. I think I would use the Morrison stuff and buy a welded rear clip set-up from them. I have used a lot of AM stuff and been really happy with it. S&W does build some very nice products as well. I know that they advertise a weld/bolt-in kit for back halving 68/72 Chevelle's. I would probally use the 31 X 18.5 X 15 Pro sreet tire or a set of 14 X 32 X 15 Drag slicks.
