JD,
For what it's worth in "Chevrolet by The Numbers" by Al Colvin
they show an engine code suffix identification of LE to be from a 1969
passenger car with a 427 rated at 335 H. P. in front of a
Turbohydramatic 400 w / a 4 barrel. Also the production
of casting # 3963512 began in October 1968 and continued through the
1971 model year. They claim this block is special because it was used as a
427 and 454 simultaneously during the 1969 and 1970 model years. It was
produced in 4 bolt and 2 bolt main configurations. They show it (the block) used
in numerous configurations of horse power and displacements of 427 and 454. (My
71' SS 454 uses this same block in a 2 bolt main configuration rated at 365
H.P. for example) BTW I personally think this
is the most accurate and extensively researched data available
but draw your own conclusions.
