Maybe not the definitive expert, but Dan Carr has done a
lot of research and if you look at http://www.chevelles.com/shop/ss_ident.html#72,

bet the 307 never was sold with the SS package, at least one's never surfaced
that I know of.
Dan has some interesting information on the 71 Heavy Chevy
as well. According to the car in question, the 13417 VIN would be
correct. The Heavy Chevy was based on the base Chevelle model and not the
Malibu.
