Subject: [Chevelle-List] more info DAVE!!??

 HEY Dave,
Hows about tellin us a little more about your car!!
Like; year, model, more engine details!,spec's on the rest of your drive
train, and last BUT certainly NOT least --
What kinda numbers does this ride run??? I'm a fellow drag racer and tend ta
be a fan of 406's. Also I like ta
keep a record of others engine combo's that work for future
reference....PLEASE? and THANKS........
-------------------------------------------------

ok, here's the lowdown..

'70 Chevelle Malibu, approx 3700 lbs with me in it.

 '72 400 block, .030-over, 5.7 rods, Wiseco flat-top pistons, rotating
assembly balanced.

(All machine work done by Michael's Racing Engines, Macedonia, Ohio -- very
good shop to work with)
All engine assembly done by me. :-)

Cam, 234/244 @ .050, .488/.510 lift (Summit Cam), regular double-roller
chain.

Heads, '71 487X castings, allegedly from a '71 LT-1. Lightly ported. Crane
1.5 Roller Rockers. Don't have any flow numbers.

Intake: Performer RPM (not air-gap), Holley 750 vacuum secondaries

Exhaust: Hedman 1 5/8" dumping into 2.5" exhaust system. I have cutouts
right after the collectors that I open up at the track.

Ignition: HEI controlled by MSD 6AL, MSD HEI coil.

Trans: Turbo 350 with B&M shift improver kit, TCI 11" Street-fighter

Rear: 12-bolt, 3.55 posi. Tires are 255-60-15 BFG Radial T/A or 26x10.5 M/T
ET Streets at dragstrip.

Car has run a best of 12.90 @ 105-106, before the roller rockers were added.
This is on my slicks, exhaust open. I haven't made a run down since I added
the rollers. Not sure how much (if any) I got from them, but the engine
seems to rev more freely, esp in midrange. My track is at 1140 ft
elevation.

This is a really nice combo on the street. Tons of low-end and midrange
torque. It's completely livable around town. Freeway driving is tolerable,
but I'm spinning 3000-3500 to run with the rest of traffic (70-75 MPH).
Good for ~ 10 mpg if I drive it nice and easy. When I race, I shift at
5500-5700.

Other mods include complete Hotchkis front suspension with 12" brakes and
1.25" f-body sway bar, poly bushings front and rear. Except for poly
bushings and Hotchkis springs, rear suspension is stock.
