I ran my (now sold) 74 Vette with unleaded for a year, I'm running my 67
Elky on unleaded and I ran my 396 on unleaded for 14 years.  I too have
heard that due to the heat/cool cycle you probably won't have any problems
with valve seats.  However, when you rebuild the engine you should have
hardened exhaust seats installed.  I rebuilt my 396 last winter and had this
done.

As Dan said, check to see if someone has put a catalytic converter on the
exhaust. If that's the case, you HAVE to run unleaded or it'll burn it out
in no time.
