I know with the 64-70 chevelle's it also depended on what quarter of the year the car was manufactored in. For instance, my 69 came with a SS hood from the factory but is not an SS because they had an excess of SS hoods. If they were out of one part and it was too close to EOY, they would just slap on something else. I don't think that 70SS is original though.
