[Chevelle-List] Vin Numbers

Howdy all, Does anyone on this list know how to tell exactly what motor came in a GM car? Other than having the build sheet, is there anything in the vin that would help. All I've ever seen from the Vin tag is the number of cylinders. I've read discussion threads saying that most all of the body tags say V8. Mopars and Fords seem to have this info displayed prominently. Is The General keeping this info secret for some reason. Thank you. Dan McIntosh 64 Impala SS 65 Malibu
