I could have driven mine as soon as the engine & tranny were in but I really wanted to do the whole thing up first. It's very hard to drive a car and restore it at the same time because half of your time gets spent fixing things just to keep it on the road. Also, you can't get into anything that will tie up the car past sundown because you usually need to drive it home, or need it the next day, or whatever. I have been driving and slowly fixing one of my Oldsmobiles for over 4 years now and didn't want to do that with the El Camino. I wanted one car that was finished instead of 3 cars in the perpetual project stage. Anyway, as long as you're having a good time, that's what's important.
