Yes, the "canister" which looks like a small pop can is the breather for
the engine and is used with the tube on the back of the block.
If not can I block the breather at the back
of the block? As long as I have the breathers in the valve
cover?
Yes, you can remove the tube and use a
plug of the appropriate size to fill the hole. As long as you use a valve
cover breather system, you'll be fine. As far as the pop can breather in
the lifter valley, you can remove it, or leave it in place - won't hurt
anything.
