That is really dangerous. i sure wouldn't drive it until i found the problem. . i do believe you said in your first post that it was a full size truck? with a 350 I'm assuming it is. your truck is kind of rare. it was the first TBI full size pickup. they only built them for a few short months. in Jan of 87 they came out with 88 new style body. ( i know this because my new 1986 GMC i bought in Sept of 86 was considered 2 years old when the 88s came out) . I'm suspecting since this was the first year you may find out that they had some glitches in the system. you may want to check and see if there was any recalls or service tach bulletin here is one I found Automotive Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins, 1987 GMC Truck Model Selection.
