Read as many of the tech articles as you can digest
on http://www.madelectrical.com/electrical-tech.shtml . Before
my car was rewired using a Centech kit, just adding an 8 gauge wire from the
alternator output post to the horn relay boosted the voltage to the fuse
panel.
The electrical components inside the car (dash
lights, gauges, radio, etc.) get power from the horn relay. In the stock
system there is a voltage drop from the alt. to the horn relay. By adding
an 8 gauge wire directly from the alt. to the horn relay you increase the
voltage that the horn relay has, thereby increasing the voltage to the fuse
panel.
I'm not an expert with electrical systems by ANY
stretch of the imagination, but this has been my experience and the tech
articles on madelectrical give the reasoning behind it in more
detail. Hope that helps. BTW: The voltage drop is the same
reason why you should add relays to the headlights because they're not getting
enough volts. When you get more voltage to the headlights, they will be
brighter.
BTW: Having brand new wires throughout the
car is AWESOME :) Everything's bright and it doesn't flicker!
