Steve, I don't sell Hurst but I've used their shifters for almost 40 years in my Chevelles. The one in this particular car has been there for 15 years. One steel bushing kit, like you mentioned, and it's never given me a lick of trouble. Summit is probably about as low ball priced as anyone for Hurst equipment. Unless you know the previous owner or know all of the parts (rods, arms, shifter assy) by their numbers, I'd be leary of swap meet items.
I don't know of anyone who makes the adapter commercially, but any welding or machine shop should be able to follow the specs on that page. You could probably get a high school or votech student to make one up as a class project. You'll note the specs for the shifter handle aren't given so you'd have to measure your stock tower for the bolt spacing...I imagine there are different measurements for different year towers.
