A Port type fuel injection system is a very nice setup if you can afford the time to set it up and tune it in as well as the cost. I have thought about it many times... especially as the price of big time racing carbs and dominators go up. FI will still be more, but the tuning you can do is incredible and on a street car it is just awsome in terms of reliability, drivabbility, and setting it/forgetting it.

I've had an Accel/DFI on my 396 for almost 3 years now with no problems,

daily. I've driven it to Nashville three times (2000 miles round trip),
Kansas City numerous times (1000 miles round trip), Tulsa, Wichita, etc.
and, with unleaded fuel, plugs last a couple of years. Ever wonder why
almost all new cars have EFI? Aftermarket EFI isn't as cheap as an
aluminum manifold and 4-bbl, but if he's got the money to do it, I'd say
go for it.
