It's my understanding that the pinion is smaller (like an 8.2") on the Olds 12 bolt.
Stick with the "chevy" 12 bolt if you can, especially if you're going to run a lot of hp or run with sticky tires.

oh yes

Olds 12 bolts have bolt in axles, no C clips.  They use 10 bolt carriers.  There is an argument that they are stronger, which I can see to a degree.  I think you are limited to certain gear ratios also, but not 100% sure.
