One addition to the
Classic Car insurance discussion: Hagerty doesn't insure classic cars used
for racing (nitrous, slicks, etc.), so they included an endorsement with
my last policy that excludes racing, preparation for racing, practicing for
racing. They also state that there is no coverage while being "at a racing
facility or at a temporarily designated roadway used for speed, time, racing, or
performance driving events (such as driving schools speed rally or closed race
course).
They do cover my car if it
is "on display in the race facility's paddock area or specified show display
area, trailered from one location to another, or used to attend a racing event
as a spectator"
I had to find other
sources of insurance when I raced my 67 & 68 in the past that were
specifically for drag cars
Hagerty allows me to state
the value of my 68 but states in the policy that they will only pay "the
verifiable value" of the car, so I doubt if I would get the
entire stated amount, but I have it valued at $17000, which is close to the
book value of a restored 1968 SS396.
