The page with the info is http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/eps_sect2.html#idle.html#idle, the index.html is a base page.  I stand corrected (jump in here anytime Brian LOL).  I always adjusted the IMS until max RPM was obtained with the highest vacuum reading.  I just assumed that turning the screws in reduces the air flow in the idle circuit; apparently it reduces the fuel flow in the idle circuit.  Makes sense that less fuel will create a leaner condition.

BTW, the Holley site (http://www.holley.com/HiOctn/TechServ/TechInfo/TI-219.html) says the same thing: "Most Holley Street Performance, O.E. Muscle Car, Competition and Pro-Series
HP carburetors utilize idle mixture screws, located on the sides of the primary metering block. These control the volume of the pre-mixed air/fuel coming through the idle well. Turning the screws clockwise will "lean" the idle system.  Conversely, turning the screws counterclockwise will "richen" the idle system.
"

Jim - get a fuel injection system <G>  That only takes a computer to tune.  But now you're talking pulse width, voltages, etc....eh, better stick with a screwdriver.  LOL!

IDLE MIXTURE

The Edelbrock Performer Series carburetor has conventional Idle Mixture Screws (IMS) that provide a leaner A/F when turned clockwise and richer A/F when turned counter clockwise. The idle air flow is controlled by a conventional screw that opens the Primary Throttles. The following procedure should be used to set the idle mixture and speeds.

I don't think so. When you turn counter-clockwise, you create more space

inside, letting more gas flow. When you turn clockwise, you close the gap,

letting less gas through. No?

I should know this by now, but I don't   8^[

To make the air fuel mixture more lean on my Edelbrock

performer 600, do I turn the screws clockwise or

counter-clockwise?  My guess is the latter, but I

wanted to double-check.

Thanks,

Jim
