On a different list I was involved in a thread about the length of SBC intake
manifold bolts. According to David Vizard they're 1.25" long but a friend of
mine learned the hard way that some aftermarket intakes aren't as thick around
the bolt holes, and that can lead to pushrod interference:

Last night I compared a 1972 iron intake, an Edelbrock Performer #2101, and a
Performer RPM #7101. Using a micrometer I measured the thickness of the metal
at each of the 12 bolt holes:

OEM: .55-.58" thick
#2101: .43-.48" thick
#7101: .37-.42" thick

Anyone considering the replacement of a stock iron intake with an aftermarket
aluminum intake would be wise the measure the material thickness, visually
check for bolt-to-pushrod interference (center 2 bolt holes on each side), or
both...

PS The #7101 is for sale - email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] for particulars.
