As Tom suggested, determine what the problem really is first. The solution might be significantly cheaper than buying a whole new long block or complete engine.
Remanufactured engines from places like Checker, Autozone, etc. start around $700 but basically you're limited to what they sell so if you want certain components you might have to have one custom-built.
