Bill, I may not be much help but here is what I see. Highway performance between the 283/PG and 305/350 would be basically the same. Both are 1 to 1 in high gear. The code that counts is the one stamped on the axle tube. In 67 the CR is supposed to be 3.70 posi. That would be highly unlikely in a 283/PG car. Go back and look again real close. The first letter is gonna be a C, the second is critical in determining what you have. As far as a recommendation for a good highway gear, go 3.08. My 65 283/PG has that combo and does well at highway speeds. I'm taching around 2600 at 60 MPH. Keep in mind the the diff. may be setup different than it came from the factory, so the codes could be wrong.
Good luck.

Subject: [Chevelle-list] rear gears

hi gang
I've got a question or two regarding the gearing of my differential.I've got a 67 Malibu that had a 283 and a powerglide, I've pulled them and installed a 305 and a TH350. My question is this "what would you recommend for the gears in my rear end"? I'm looking to decrease my rpms on the long haul and increase my mileage.to the best of my knowledge my gears are stock.
any help would be greatly appreciated
it looks like the casting on the rear end is "3894938N" ? its a non posi 10 bolt
stamped on the tube it looks like "CR1109B" or could be "cr11098" ?
hope this helps
