It's called spoofing. The virus or trojan (usually) will get the addresses from the infected computer and send emails "spoofing" your address in the from section of the header.
They also come from other sources. Remember, your email address shows up in most of the posts you place on various message boards. Spammers farm those email addresses from the archives or other webpages and send blanket messages out from "you". Fun, fun. Nasty and perverse, and generally unstoppable at this time.
