Friends, your expertise is needed once more- I've
been driving my '66 and of course enjoying the ride..
But Thursday night, while driving the car home, I
started hearing a banging sound from the rear of the
car- It's not a constant sound, it only seems to
sound like it happens when I make some turns or go
over bad bumps. The sound is coming from the
rear-right section of the car, and really the only
things I haven't replaced in the car to date are:
1. the rear control arm bushings
2. the rear u-joints
3. the rear itself
Can anyone tell me what a common indicator would be
that the rear is going? Again, it's not constant,
moreso over bad bumps than anything- It also seems to
occur every now and again while I'm coming to a stop
and the PG transmission is downshifting from 2nd gear
to 1st. But, I'm sure that the rear itself is due for
a swap out as well, considering I'm running a 300+HP
327 in her, when she only came w/a 283.
Any suggestions at all would be helpful. I'm just
trying to troubleshoot now so I'm not broke down on
the side of the road one day in the near future 8^]
