I remember you stating 50% even wear on the rear pads...

If the Brake Fluid / Gear Oil has saturated the friction material....there is NOTHING that will remedy the problem except R&R of the Shoes...AND machining the drums for proper adjustment with the new shoes

And yes...As Rocky say's....Axel Seals also can play with one's patience...and safety!
When in doubt with brakes...find an old Grey Rock Manual....or a professional that has read one. 

( I simply mean to say that I do NOT do my own brakes...I can make this Chevelle haul @ss...but bringing it safely to a complete stop is another's duty...and he's a 25 year ASE Master Technician!)
