Just a small addendum to Marks note.
B-4 you weld the bucket seat bracket to the
floor.
mount them to your seat tracks, and make sure
there BOTH IN THE FULL FORWARD OR FULL BACK position.
Then install using the forward and the rear
outside mounting bolts.. and scribe or sharpie mark the outline of the seat
bracket onto the floor board.
now remove and weld away...
I don't want to be a wise As# but I made this
mistake my self on one side and repaired a local guy who went down
the same road of misaligned tracks..

Subject: RE: [Chevelle-list] Converting
to bucket seats in a 71?
Mark,
I
put the conversion brackets in my 72 Elky. The kit came with two
brackets, one for the driver's side and one for the passenger's side.
The raised part of the bracket points to the firewall and is welded down to
the floor next to the tunnel (you will want to get very good penetration
when you weld for safety's sake). For the outer side of the seat, the
buckets bolt to the existing holes next to the door sill. You will notice
that the front bolt hole (towards the firewall near the sill) is raised
similar in height to the raised part of the bracket. The back hole near the
door sill fits the outer hole in the seat bracket (my bracket has two
holes and the outer hole lined up perfectly with the rear bolt
hole).
My
seats sit level when on the ground. That is, left and right brackets are
identical in height as well as from front to back on each bracket. Because
of the about 1" raise in front on both the
floor and bracket, the seat is tilted back somewhat. Its a
perfect angle for me. My seats came out of a 71 El Camino and when
I get to the interior stage I will recover them with 72
covers.
Hope this helps.
Larry
I ordered two pairs of bench to bucket conversion
brackets for my 1971. I have a
question about this mod I hope someone can help with.
I took the old junker seats down from storage today and
set them on the garage floor. Three legs one each seat are the same length, the
forth about 1" shorter. Both seats are
like this.
The conversion
bracket picture on Johns web
site looks like one end of the brackets is higher than the
other, same for both
brackets in the set.
Either my seats are not from a Chevelle (possible I was sold the wrong thing) or
the kit would need one flat bracket per seat and one with an elevated end
per seat.
Can anyone shed some light
on this?
