I am with Ken - that missing the trans will never make it a true #'s car.
Also is there should be some documentation to prove that it is a true Super
Sport since after '68 the SS was ordered as an option and was not included
in the VIN. I am also with Bob that a total restoration means total - in
my schooling, total means a frame off with everything needing rebuilding or
replacing has been done with new sheet metal replacing all rust.

I agree ...

BUT I would like to know what exactly "needs attention.: the term
"needs" TOTAL restoration means different things to different guys... to
me it means at least $10,000 out of the wallet and 100's of hours in the
garage

Both my son and I own 68 396's and honestly our definition of restoration
means simply to get it on the street with no mechanical issues ... and
also looking good... without fear of a pot hole knocking a bondo patch
off the car...
