Hi, Doug. 
You may get away with it in cooler seasons, evenings
and such. The sb-400 has siemeesed (sp) cylinders and
as such don't get a lot of cooling between them. They
may not ping much until you step on it! Not knowing
much else about the thermostat, radiator and
environment we just can't say. Try it! and look at
some thicker copper Head Gaskets, Keep the Air/fuel a
bit richer and drive it like you stole it!
