Ahhh ok that DID work with some nice spark (I suppose that's normal). Soooo that would mean the solenoid is toast? Should I just replace both since I have them out? The starter has to be twenty years old at best.

If starter is o.k. it should motor as you touch the positive cable to the starter lead. be sure to have the starter secured as it will jump around when/if it motors.
