Like Clint said, making it handle better is
really easy. A good quality set of shocks will make a huge
difference, as will modern rubber. I have the Global West setup with
really wide (275/40/17 tires) and it is stiff and likely out-handles your
old 3000GT. You could use the air bags to get an adjustable ride
height and find reasonable tires and some great shocks. Or, try it
with the current springs, Koni or Bilstein shocks, and see what you
think. If you don't plan to push the car really hard, then you can
save a lot by keeping the stock A-arms and brakes, and just using moderate
tires/wheels (maybe 16x8 with 245/50/16 tires?). If you like a lower
stance, or low profile tires, then that will dictate other choices.
TireRack.com has lots of tires specs where you can see the diameter of the
tire and see if this is close enough to what you want.
I have found that modern shocks make a huge
difference, with tires coming in next in importance, then everything
else.
