Hi JJ:  Crawl underneath & check out a weekend driver.  Few if any can compete with a true trailer queen.  These cars are restored to 995-1000 point stature & never put on the road again.  These guys must have barometers stuck up themselves.  I've seen them trailer up just seconds B4 the rain comes.  Years of just driving to shows, 1000-1500 miles a season does cause deterioration from normal wear, etc.  All the cleaning & painting in the world will not prevent it from showing.  Queens remain pristine forever!  While the weekend show car may look super clean up top and really sharp to an observer, to a judge it's no contest.  Not even close in the case of a real driver.  Again, crawl underneath.  This is the true difference & real concern of drivers vs queens!!  It's apples & oranges. 
 
We're not talking about rustbucket DD's cause there are some nice restored DD's out there but a true restored DD competing against a weekend restored driver is in the same situation as the restored weekender against a true trailor queen.  When you start crawling & judging it is no contest.  Yes it's true that some guys trailer for convenience & necessity because of distance to shows & performance gearing, etc.  However many of these cars are driven locally and it shows, and even raced.  The true queens once complete only come on & off the trailer.  Just doesn't seem right that they compete in the same class when they're not!   I don't have the answer either.  The inequity exists & we all know it.  Once again I've said enough.  My appologies if I offend anyone.  None offense intended.  
 
P.S. I kinda think it's neat when guys put those mirrors up under their cars.

Maybe just to clear up a few things...
 
We aren't talking daily drivers versus trailer queens.  At our show we have a daily driver class for cars that are a person's main mode of transportation.  Its an issue of putting a restored car that is driven against one that is trailered.
 
As an interesting observation at many of the shows I have been to I have seen just as many(if not more) modified trailer queens as I have numbers matching restos.
 
Personally I don't think there is an easy answer for this.  Trailers are needed for one of two things: convenience or necessity.
