Thanks Bill. It turns out Chuck was right. I got into the car and turned the
headlights on with the ignition off, and the "gen" light came on. I looked
up underneath and there was a gray-wired bulb going into a lower hole on
that side hole and nothing in the upper hole. The bulb itself was very
dusty, which I'm sure cuts down the brightness. In the course of cleaning
the bulb it separated from its base and doesn't work any more. I also found
the red lead that I assume is supposed to be in the gen spot. It had a
smashed bulb in it. The bulb for the Brake light was also not in its socket,
and the wire is hanging down. I'm just going to buy about a dozen of these
bulbs and replace them all. I'm guessing that everything will work as long
as it's taken care of properly.
