I didn't say you needed a 3.73 gear for your application,Dan. Gearing is a compromise,any way you look at it. Depending on how an engine is cammed,it might not be happy running down the highway at 2,000rpm.  Someone running a 3,000rpm converter doesn't want that.
However,a blown engine makes so much torque everywhere in the powerband,that excessive gearing is unnecessary and counterproductive. Is a 3.73 gear excessive with your application? Depending on camming & converter choice,it might be perfect.
But,just because it might be perfect for your application doesn't mean it's right for another.
Most importantly to remember,the above statements are only my opinion. IMO,it's always better to undergear than overgear,especially on a mild streetcar. Your car hardly qualifies for a "mild streetcar". <G>

Heck Clint…this forum is where I was told a 3:73 was the answer…now you say it’s not. I haven’t driven my car since we installed it, but I notice on the website that calculates RPM’s I’ll be running around 3200 at 70 MPH….Does seem a bit high! With a 400 trany.

While 3:73 may not be perfect, I’ll bet if you took a poll, 3:73 would win. I did the same a year ago and went with the 3:73.
