John, if any water did get in the engine, it would show on the dipstick.
Also, the dipstick tube is probably lower than the carb.

Subject: [Chevelle-list] hypothetical car flood question
Date: Wed, 1 Mar 2006 12:33:01 -0500
I have a customer saying that her Chevelle was in a flood and ended up in
about two feet of water. She says that she and her husband are afraid to
try
to start the car because they assume that water got into the engine. Do you
guys think that two feet of water would be enough to cause engine damage? I
would imagine that air in the exhaust pipe(s) would prevent it from getting
in that way, and gaskets should be watertight, right? If that were all
true,
wouldn't the water have to be above the intake to get in? How would you go
about checking it out? Pull the heads and see if the pistons are rusty?
Thanks,
John Nasta
