No offense, but I’m always leery of blanket statements because they usually cover things up.

A few years back I sold a 74 Vette.  A guy and his wife flew in from Las Vegas, gave me cash, went to the bank to notarize me signing the title over, and they drove it home.  When I sold my Chevelle, a couple brought a trailer from Kentucky, I already had the title signed and notarized, they paid by Cashier’s Check, loaded it up and drove off.  When I bought my BMW, the wife and I flew to St. Louis, I paid the man cash and we drove it home.

In the last instance I did know the VIN and told my insurance company I was buying it to insure I was covered and they told me that I, me, my person, is insured the moment I drive any car off from any dealer or individual whether they are informed beforehand or not. Maybe it’s because I’ve been with them for 30 years that they allow me that leeway…don’t know.

No, I was saying that any time somebody comes from out of state and wants to know if they can drive it away the same day, it's always a scam.

It would be very tough to line up a transport company for the same day anyway, unless you were willing to pay the trucker even if the deal fell through. You would have to go there knowing in advance that you were buying the car no matter what.

In NY they don’t have titles for cars this old. When I register my '70 they will ask me to surrender the title. To register a car like this here, you need the original registration certificate signed by the previous owner, and a bill of sale. That's why you are supposed to leave a copy of your registration and not the original in the car.
