Hi Mike, the pump has been off since November while installing my new 350 and I simply covered the hose ends with a clean rag.  Moving the car today, old fluid came out when turning.  Should it hurt the box to drive it another 50 miles? If you plug the ports you will get hydraulic lock. If you were to leave them open you will contaminate the steering box.
