John I am not sure why it is called a divorced choke. All I know is that I have always heard it called that. It may be that the thermostatic spring is not attached to the carb, hence divorced.

What exactly does divorced choke mean? Is that the thermostatic kind? I have a manual choke on my El Camino but I want to go w/ electric for the Malibu. I guess I will give rebuilding my Q-Jet a shot since I basically have nothing to lose.
