John, a divorced choke is where the hear coil, or heat tube is mounted on the intake itself with a rod or tube to work the choke plate.  Mid to late 70's Q-Jets had electric chokes on some units.  You can get a local parts store usually.  Just check and be sure the spring is turned in correct direction to open coke when heated by the electric conductor.

What exactly does divorced choke mean? Is that the thermostatic kind? I have a manual choke on my El Camino but I want to go w/ electric for the Malibu. I guess I will give rebuilding my Q-Jet a shot since I basically have nothing to lose.
