Dennis, I think you will find a couple of hidden nuts, one low and one high,
that are real tough to get to. I haven't worked on a 68, but I'm guessing it
is the same as earlier models. It may require the inner fender to be
removed. I have modified my 64 and 65 with access holes thru the inner
fender to remove these nuts with the fender in place. I would guess this
might be covered in the archives. Maybe someone else will chime in as to 68
A/C cars if there is a difference.

I'm in the middle of changing out my heater core on my 68 SS with A/C. The
A/C is not hooked up. The problem I'm having is getting the case apart
from the inside.I've taken all the nuts off from the outside fire wall.
But it still won't come apart. The 68 service manual gives very little
information on heater core work. Anybody have any ideas on what to do
