I have a 454, that has a rear seal leak, and I was told by a local mechanic
it was too hard to drop the pan without lifting the engine, so...we're going
to pull mine, and I have new ceramic coated headers and I pray I don't nick
them! Oh boy!

I don't think you can without lifting the engine, even with the trans out.
