I think D.R. hit it on the head here. My experience has shown that it is not the company as much as the agent you deal with. I had an absentee agent with State Farm and the company tried to screw me. I had nobody to go to bat for me or be my advocate.
Buying insurance from someone you know who will work for you when you need them is worth a lot in my book. I have an agent like that now, but I'd sure consider Alex if my situation changed (and he could do cars and houses in California)...
