Interesting webpage Steve, I have 1968 Chevelle SS396 as well. Can these be used in conjunction with a 6al MSD BOX and Distributor ? What about clearance problems with big block headers ?
Thanks again for the info Terry S Hodges ACES 05982 From: "Steve E." <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: 2006/07/28 Fri PM 01:03:24 EDT To: <[email protected]> Subject: [Chevelle-list] Pertronix Ignitor II ignition I was introduced to Pertronix ignition systems in the 1980s when my racing partner and I installed one in our 1967 Chevelle 327 cid drag race car. Max rpm was supposed to be 6000 but we ran the motor up to 7500 for several years with no problems. We never looked under the dist. cap for 2-3 years, that's how dependable it was! When I upgraded my 1968 Chevelle SS396, I used the same ignition and added another great product, DirectHits spark amplifier modules ( http://www.directhits.com/ ). These devices are really capacitors that store and compress the spark. I have installed many of these kits on customers cars in order to increase mpg and they really do work, about 10-15% gain. My personal cars/vans gained over 4 mpg. My chevelle mpg was up but main reason for use in this car was to gauge performance- from 14.2s 1/4 mile to 13.90s with just adding the DirectHits and sparkplugs right there at the drag strip.
