Yep,a bunch more than $2K. My car was already done when I bought it but I
easily spent over $10K on a new Alston Fab 9, PSE 17x13 pin-drive wheels,Baer
brakes,Air Ride Shockwave coilovers, etc. My chassis shop quoted me $5K to $8K
for a backhalf job.

Hi Stephen, I've done exactly what you describe to my
'69 Malibu, except that I tend to go to the track 2-3 times per year with it
for fun. I'tll cost you far more than $2k, I can assure you. I have
over $5k in parts just in the rear end; wheels and tires will run you
$1k plus. Now, I do have a race ready Ford 9" setup with all the
goodies, so it can be done for less, but not a lot less. Then there's
wheel tubs, fabrication, rebuild trunk floor, etc, etc.
Feel free to
check out the tons of pics and pages of my car at http://www.prostreetcar.com. And
feel free to ask me questions. I can give you plenty of lessons learned
on what not to do.
I might even have some parts to sell, such as
a narrowed Ford 9" housing and Detroit Locker. :-)
take
care, Mike

I'm thinking of having a '70 Malibu back-halved in the near future. I'm
not going the whole Pro Street route. (at least not now) For now I'd be
keeping it mostly stock except for the back-half. I'm in Chicagoland.
(western suburbs). Can any members out there recommend a quality shop? I'd
want to drop the car off & pick it up when it's finished. Any idea on
the turn around time on this? What the labor costs might be?
I got Chris Alston's catalog and he seems to imply they do it for
under $2000. I'd supply the rear end. I just love the look of this type of
car. Mostly for cruising. No 1/4 mile runs. Any thoughts from the group
would be great. Thanks to all.
