Or are you sure they are the right parts, My first car a 62 mercury comet, I had to replace the ball joints. I had to order them, too like two week when they finally came in they didn't fit. I found out after some research that half way through that year they changed sizes. I am not saying that is the problem but you could have gotten the wrong parts.
